Wearable Sculpture “Modern Indian”

So, for my last Space Research Project, we were told to make a piece of wearable artwork/sculpture out of wire and a “skin”. The skin just had to be a covering of your wire skeleton. This was not supposed to be a fashion item. Remember how a few posts back, I said I wanted to be a Modern Indian (Native American), for Halloween? DID SOMEBODY SAY FORESHADOWING?

I present to you, The Headdress.

Unfortunately I didn’t get many in progress shots of this thing, but the end result ended up pretty nice in my opinion!

So, the thing that made this project so special was the fact that I was told to “put myself into the project”. Basically, each aspect of the headdress represents me. The piece as a whole represents my life from birth until now.

The white feathers represent purity. I feel that I was a pretty pure soul during my childhood.

The red feathers represent youth. Red is a dominate color, representative of power. It was my favorite when I was a child, and it is relevant on the headdress because of the color’s connotation in native tribes.

The purple feathers designate my adolescence and they are accompanied by the white feathers because, purple was my favorite color and it represents royalty. The attachment of the white feathers signify the purity during this time of my life.

The horns, finally, represent growth, progress and maturity. To earn horns to wear on a headdress, you must complete many tasks that make or break you as a man in your tribe. I chose the horns of the bison, a strong animal to help represent my growth, and the speed of my maturity considering the events in my life.

Take it or leave it, here is the project. I enjoyed it, and I hope you did too.
